Memoir's Of A Forgotten Footballer

The sharp smell of wet grass and the dagger like rain over whelmed the night. The stadium was brimming with fans in colours of all variety, anxious and anticipating.
It was the biggest moment of Kayden Cortez's life. One that would make him God in the eyes of countless around the world. It was what he dreamed of his entire ordinary life, a moment that would turn things around and make it worth living. He didn't want to be the only one who thought he was capable of achieving greatness; he wanted the world to reflect it with him.

One goal, one keeper and a football was the given opportunity. The future was at Kayden's feet, along with the eyes of the rest of the world.
Whether it was to hope that he'd deliver or to wish he would fail, everyone was captivated. The words "Can He?" echoed through the minds of millions, including Kayden himself, as he tried not to let the nerves get the best of him.
With destiny in his own hands, things were different. Kayden could not mess up because if he did, he would have only himself to blame.

Each heavy step he took towards his fate caused the crowd to roar louder, it was a penalty that would decide the outcome of the game, the reaction of the public and his life.
Penalty kicks at the start of his career were a piece of cake. Kayden specialised in them but as the competition got fiercer and the rivalry between certain teams intensified it added pressure to the simplest of tasks. Under-pressure Kayden nearly collapsed at first and as he grew more experienced he learned to drown it all out and focus on what was in hand.
His heart in his mouth, he readied himself for the referee to blow the whistle. What was just a matter of few seconds seemed to be taking hours. Was the referee stalling on purpose? Or was it just his mind?

Just as he was about the panic the referee blew his whistle and it was time for Kayden to take the kick. Blocking out the sound of the spectators and ignoring the eyes of his team-mates, Kayden focused on his target. The goalkeeper was inching towards the left, which would leave the right corner open. With his eyes nearly shut he banged the football opposite of where his mind was set to and straight into the back of the net.
